Better Messages 3.0 is a full visual and architectural refresh. The messenger is being rebuilt from the ground up with a new design system and a cleaner component architecture.
New features in active development: location pinning with embedded map previews, a redesigned file upload experience with clearer per-file status (conversion, optimization, type checks), and video message recording for sending short video clips inline.
The design is fully theme-aware — bubble colors, radius, and density are CSS variables, so the whole messenger can be retinted in a child theme. Screenshots below are from the working prototype and not final.
